President Christodoulides attending COP29 climate summit in Baku

President Nikos Christodoulides is in Baku, Azerbaijan, where he is participating in the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

On the morning of 12 November, he is scheduled to attend the opening ceremony of the Summit of Heads of State and Government, which will be addressed by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis, in a written statement, highlighted the conference's focus on financing climate initiatives, implementing the Paris Agreement, and accelerating global efforts for climate adaptation and mitigation.

"The President will intervene during the national statements of the leaders, where he will refer to the positions and actions of the Republic of Cyprus in addressing the consequences of climate change and the regional role that Cyprus plays in this direction," he noted.

In the evening, the President will attend a dinner hosted by the President of Azerbaijan in honour of the leaders participating in COP29. 

Foreign Affairs Minister Constantinos Kombos, the Government Spokesperson, Political Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Thessalia Salina Shambou, Director of the President's Diplomatic Office Doros Venezis, and other officials are accompanying the President, who will return to Cyprus on 13 November.
