First ever meeting of Cyprus FM with counterpart from Azerbaijan

Foreign Affairs Minister Constantinos Kombos met his counterpart from Azerbaijan for the first time, on the sidelines of COP29 in Baku.

Posting on X Government Spokesperson, Konstantinos Letymbiotis said that Kombos had a bilateral meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov, in Baku.

Letymbiotis added that they discussed in view of the upcoming Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU, the first half of 2026 and this was an opportunity for a first exchange of views on issues of mutual interest  and a frank discussion on issues on which there are different approaches.

The Government Spokesperson said that taking into account that the two countries do not have official diplomatic relations, the meeting in Baku and every channel of dialogue are useful and important. He noted that the exercise of Cyprus’ foreign policy is based on "enduring principles and values which consistently guide our diplomatic relations."
