CMMI and NIMRD sign MoU for cooperation on marine observation and aquaculture

The Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI) and the Institutul Național de Cercetare-Dezvoltare Marină Grigore Antipa (NIMRD) of Romania have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to cooperate on projects related to key research areas, such as aquaculture, marine observation, the impacts of climate change and the reduction of marine pollution.

A press release issued by the CMMI said that the 20 November agreement marks an important milestone in strengthening cooperation in the field of marine and maritime research, innovation and development. The agreement was signed in Larnaca, at the CMMI premises, by Zacharias Siokouros, Managing Director of CMMI, and Dr. Florin Timofte, Director General of NIMRD, in the presence of researchers from the fields of marine and maritime science.

It is added that the Memorandum of Understanding aims to advance the shared vision of CMMI and NIMRD to strengthen research and innovation in marine science, particularly in areas that are critical to sustainable development and ocean health.

Through this, the press release said, the two organisations will collaborate on projects addressing key research areas, such as aquaculture, marine observation, climate change impacts, and marine pollution reduction.

Concluding, it noted that the Memorandum of Understanding not only reaffirms the two Institutes’ commitment to innovation and sustainable development but also strengthens regional and international cooperation on critical issues related to the sea.
