CBN Young Dragon Awards: Meet the candidates in the Shipping category

Votes are still flooding in for the public’s choice for the young entrepreneurs and professionals under the age of 40 who will be awarded as part of the newly established CBN Young Dragon Awards.

The Awards Ceremony will be taking place in Nicosia on 2 December and attendance is by invitation only.

With three finalists in each award category have selected and announced by the Awards Committee, the public can, until 26 November, still continue to cast their vote and shape the final result, contributing to and decisively determining the selection of each category's awardee. The public's vote will count on a 50%-50% scale with the Award Committee's vote.

The three finalists in the Shipping award category, as selected by the Awards Committee, are:

Eliana Charalambous Savvide

Position: Legal Manager

Expert in the field of shipping law, Charalambous Savvide is singlehandedly dealing with complex legal matters, ranging from ship & mortgage registration, flag matters, ship finance, claims handling as well as complex sale & purchase matters. As the company's AML and data protection officer, she leads the respective committees and laises with governmental authorities and regulators. Charalambous Savvide is a regular recipient of the Legal500 Awards as well as numerous references and accreditations. Discreet and trustworthy, she poses the leadership qualities of a mature C-level executive. Hugely respected and acknowledged internally for her people skills, legal expertise and strong ability to represent her company, YoungShip and WISTA as a reliable ambassador. Position: HSQE & Sustainability Manager

Dimitris Lemesianos is a Naval Architect, graduated with 1st Class from the University of Newcastle, UK. He currently serves as the Health, Safety, Quality, Environmental (HSQE), and Sustainability Manager at Island Oil (Holdings) Ltd. In this role, Lemesianos ensures the implementation and continual improvement of the Group’s Management System, leads the development of the Group’s Sustainability Report, and supports strategic decision-making through comprehensive sustainability analysis. Before joining Island Oil, Lemesianos gained extensive experience as a Ship Surveyor, Safety and Security Auditor and Maritime Labour Inspector as well as expertise in the verification of GHG emissions. Lemesianos has also participated in meetings with the International Maritime Organization (IMO)’s MEPC and working groups as well as the European Sustainable Shipping Forum (ESSF-EU) on regulations such as the EU MRV. In addition to his professional roles, Lemesianos has academic experience as an external lecturer. He is actively involved in various industry committees, further contributing to the maritime field.

Vassilis Malikides

Vassilis Malikides is a distinguished Chief Investment Officer at OSM Thome, the third largest maritime service provider in the world, and has held senior leadership positions in the Shipping industry over the last decade. With a profound talent for mathematics, evidenced by his four gold medals in Olympiads during his teenage years, he advanced his education at Cambridge University. Malikides has rapidly ascended in the shipping sector, demonstrating exceptional leadership and strategic vision. His strong analytical mindset, effective collaboration with senior leadership, and solid commercial acumen have been instrumental for OSM Thome growth. Before joining OSM in 2015, Malikides was an auditor in PWC (holding an ACA from ICAEW) and later on joined SeaBird Exploration, a publicly listed Norwegian seismic company. Malikides serves on the Board of Directors of CySEC and has actively promoted young talent in Shipping, including serving as Vice President of Youngship Cyprus.

The CBN Young Dragon Awards will honour professionals/executives under the age of 40 who have demonstrated outstanding achievement, leadership and commitment to making a positive impact on their companies.

One person will receive the Dragon Award for each category, starting a new or renewed business and career path.

This year's awards ceremony is presented by Cyta Business and also supported by Punin Group and ECOMMBX, proudly highlighting the value and importance of the institution.

Those members of the public who wish to participate in the voting can only vote for one candidate per category, while you do not have to choose a candidate in all categories for your vote to be valid. You can vote via the same IP address only once.
