Cyprus Shipping at EU Shipowners’ AGM and Board of Directors meeting in Brussels

The European Community’ Shipowners Associations (ECSA), which includes the national shipowners’ associations of the European Union held its Annual General Assembly and Board of Directors Meeting on 10 December 2024, in Brussels, bringing together key stakeholders to discuss pivotal issues shaping the future of the European shipping industry.

Attending the meeting on behalf of the Cyprus shipping industry were Nicolas Hadjioannou and Thomas Kazakos.

The meeting agenda included discussions on the Association’s various strategies, aimed at amplifying the voice of the sector and focusing on its sustainable and inclusive growth. Preparations for the European Shipping Summit 2025, a flagship event to address the sector's priorities, were also reviewed.

Furthermore, the appointment of the new European Commission was noted as well as the 2040 climate targets and the implications of the EU ETS and FuelEU Maritime revisions were discussed, highlighting the need for alignment with the IMO GHG Strategy targets to successfully decarbonise shipping.
