Tourist arrivals up 5% in first 11 months of 2024, surpassing 2023 total

Tourist arrivals reached 3,907,137 for the period of January – November 2024, compared to 3,722,022 in the same period of 2023, recording an increase of 5%.

The number of tourists for the first eleven months of 2024 surpassed the total number of tourist arrivals for 2023, when they reached 3,845,652.

Τhe arrivals of tourists reached 179,941 in November 2024 compared to 159,605 in November 2023, recording a significant increase of 12.7%.

Arrivals from the United Kingdom were the main source of tourism for November 2024, with a share of 25.9% (46,598) of total arrivals, followed by Poland with 11.3% (20,331), Israel with 10.5% (18,840), Germany with 9.1% (16,424) and Greece with 8.9% (16,015).

For a percentage of 64.5% of tourists, the purpose of their trip in November 2024 was holidays, for 17.2% visit to friends and relatives and for 18.1% business. Respectively, in November 2023, 67.2% of tourists visited Cyprus for holidays, 19.7% visited friends or relatives and 12.8% visited Cyprus for business reasons.

Returns of residents of Cyprus

A total number of 120,248 residents of Cyprus returned from a trip abroad in November 2024 compared to 117,487 in the corresponding month last year, recording an increase of 2.4%. The main countries from which residents of Cyprus returned in November 2024 were Greece with a share of 32.6% (39,194), the United Kingdom with 11.7% (14,128) and Italy with 6.3% (7,549).

The purpose of travel for the residents of Cyprus in November 2024 was mainly holidays, with a percentage of 61.7%, whilst business reasons held a percentage of 36%, studies 0.7% and other reasons 1.7%.
