Hotel industry panic over as PASYXE accepts Labour Minister's collective agreement proposal

After several weeks of discussions and intense consultations, labour peace in the hotel industry appears to have been sealed with the signing of the sector’s collective agreement, which will remain in place until 2027.

The above development arose following the new extraordinary general assembly of Cyprus Hotels Association (PASYXE), during which the members of the Association approved the revised mediation proposal submitted by Minister of Labour Yiannis Panayiotou for the renewal of the collective agreement of hotel employees.

Approval of the proposal comes ten days after its rejection by the Association and after the Ministry of Labour responded to a series of concerns expressed by PASYXE in relation to some of the provisions of the proposal submitted by the competent Minister.

It is worth mentioning that the Minister of Labour’s mediation proposal had already been accepted by both the Association of Cyprus Tourist Enterprices (ACTE-STEK) and industrial workers' unions.

It is recalled that PASYXE, STEK, SEK and PEO had reached an agreement in principle on the collective agreement on 1 November.

Now, and after the positive response from PASYXE, the signing of the collective agreement, as announced by Minister Panayiotou in statements to the CyBC, will take place at noon on 4 December at the Ministry of Labour.

It is noted that, in his statements, after expressing his satisfaction with the approval of the proposal submitted by PASYXE, Panayiotou stated that through the collective agreement that will be signed, normality in the sector will be ensured for several years, since it will last until the end of 2027.
