'Prometheas' anchored in Malaysia for technical checks, Energy Minister confirms

The LNG tanker 'ETYFA-Prometheas' is currently anchored in the Malacca Strait in Malaysia, where technical inspections are being carried out for the evaluation of the vessel, Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry George Papanastasiou has revealed.

According to marinetraffic.com, the ship, which sailed from Shanghai on 14 December, has been anchored in a Malaysian port since Christmas Eve.

The Minister told the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) that the ship is expected to be assessed there by an independent technical company, with the Natural Gas Company DEFA choosing Malaysia for this purpose as there are "more available and more professional services" there.

Regarding the response the Minister expects from the Minister of Environment and Energy of Greece, Theodoros Skylakakis, to the 10-page letter sent by Papanastasiou in early December, which set out the comments of the consultants of the Cyprus government on the issue of Cyprus' participation in the share capital of the Great Sea Interconnector (GSI), the Minister said that he has not yet received the relevant response.

Asked whether the government's decision on whether or not to participate in the share capital will depend on it, he said that the Greek Minister's answer is very important and will be taken into consideration for the decision to be taken, but the decision will not be determined by it alone.
