Nicosia 2030, candidate for European Capital of Culture presents logo

Nicosia 2030, candidate for European Capital of Culture, has unveiled its logo, with Artistic Director George G. Papageorgiou saying the aim is for the cultural rays of Nicosia to illuminate the Nicosia District, Cyprus and the world.

“Our goal is for Nicosia to be a starting point for radial roads of dialogue, radial roads of cooperation and co-creation between the city and the villages, between the Nicosia District and Europe, between Cyprus and the world,” said Papageorgiou.

The Nicosia 2030 plan covers the whole of Nicosia District, which is why the presentation was attended by representatives of Municipalities and Communities from all over the District. The aim of the Nicosia 2030 effort is for not only the city of Nicosia but also its villages, from Lympia to Kampos and Kato Pyrgos, to become the European Capital of Culture.

The logo presented is the result of the competition launched by Nicosia 2030 and won by the team of DpS Athens and Semiotik Design Athens.

At the core of the designers' vision is the history of Nicosia, the walls of Nicosia, which were originally defensive, a refuge for locals and foreigners. But for Nicosia 2030 their role is expanding. They form the core of the capital. The core of Cyprus. A core that radiates and that draws energy from all the cultures that have passed and the peoples that coexist today, draws energy from the different cultures that surround Cyprus, at a Mediterranean level, at a European level, at a world level.
