German President’s historic Cyprus visit in pictures

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has wrapped his two-day state visit Cyprus, but not before paying a few visits.
Beyond his official meetings with state officials, the German President had the opportunity to visit the UN headquarters in Nicosia, the Committee on Missing Persons (CMP), the Bufferzone and the Goethe-Institut Zypern, to name a few.
President Steinmeier was welcomed on the island by Germany's Ambassador to Cyprus, Anke Schlimm.
The following day, he was welcomed by the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, who hosted a state dinner in his honour.
The German president then head off to the UN headquarters. "This afternoon, top United Nations official in Cyprus, Colin Stewart, welcomed the president of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, for a briefing on the peacebuilding efforts on the island," the German Embassy said on its social media.
He went on to visit the Committee on Missing Persons in Cyprus and learns about its important achievements.
The German President also visited the Kofinou Reception and Accommodation Centre for persons seeking international protection, where he was welcomed and briefed by Interior Minister Constantinos Ioannou.
He took a tour of Old Town Nicosia accompanied by President Nikos Christodoulides and the Mayor of Nicosia, Constantinos Yiorkadjis.
President Steinmeier visited Goethe-Institut Zypern (where he planted a tree), Platy Gymnasium and the Association for Historical Dialogue and Research (AHDR).
"Engaging with civil society in Cyprus - Meeting with AHDR, where former participants of the Imagine Project share their experiences," the German Embassy said.
