Environmental expenditures in industry reached 0.15% of the GDP in 2021

Environmental expenditures in industry reached 0.15% of the GDP in 2021, according to data from CySTAT.

On the basis of the results of a survey carried out by CySTAT, the total expenditure for environmental protection activities in industry in 2021 is estimated at €36.9 million which corresponds to 0.15% of the Gross Domestic Product, compared to €33.6 million or 0.15% of the GDP in 2020.

By sector of economic activity, the manufacturing industries reported expenditures of €32.2 million, the mining and quarrying industries and electricity supply €4.4 million and the water treatment and supply enterprises €0.2 million.

In the manufacturing sector, environmental protection activities in the manufacturing of other non-metallic mineral products accounted for €13.1 million, the manufacture of food products for €11.5 million, the manufacturing of pharmaceutical products and preparations for €1.6 million and the manufacturing of chemicals and chemical products for €1.5 million.

By environmental domain, expenditure related to the reduction of air emissions accounted for €15.3 million, for the monitoring, treatment and disposal of waste €12.6 million, for the treatment of waste water €6.9 million and for other actions such as the abatement of noise and vibrations, the protection of soil and ground water and the protection of natural resources and biodiversity €2,2 million.
