Fengaros Music Village 2024: Workshops, Lectures and Concerts

Fengaros’ annual workshops in the picturesque village of Kato Drys will take place for the eleventh time this summer from 25-30 July.

What in recent years has become a hub for knowledge exchange and creative collaboration, Fengaros Music Village will nurture a broad network of artists once more, ranging from music enthusiasts to amateurs to established professionals, according to a press release from the event's organisers.

This year, the series of daily workshops will make up three main pillars that cover a range of topics within the scope of music and performing arts:

Pillar 1: Traditional sounds, textures & words

Traditional words and music of Cyprus, the Mediterranean and beyond

  • Modal Music Composition and Improvisation (Efrén López - Spain)
  • Words and songs of Cyprus (Michalis Tterlikkas - Cyprus
  • The Cypriot Repertoire (Michalis Kouloumis - Cyprus)

Pillar 2: Modern songwriting, improvisation & techniques

Modern methods of improvising, songwriting and arranging as well as the values of ensemble performance

  • The Producer’s Den (Fotis Siotas - Greece)
  • The Odds (Panagiotis Andreou - USA)

Pillar 3: Vocal and Performing Arts

Voice, theatre and movement

  • Voice Exploration Training (ody icons - Greece)
  • Awakening inner rhythm! (Viky Kalla & Panayiotis Tofi - Cyprus
  • Telling a Story Together (Irene Andreou & Giannis Karaoulis - Cyprus/Greece)

Each pillar includes workshops within that subject matter, with participants of any level welcomed to register for a single workshop. That won’t stop them from getting a taste of the other workshops, since the schedule is carefully designed to offer a vast education and exposure to each participant. Industry professionals will conduct the workshops, offering their extensive expertise to guide the participants through their individual artistic journey.

Morning and afternoon workshop sessions will liven up Kato Drys for six days, with music being heard from every corner of the traditional village. Each day will wrap up with free-to-the-audience educational concerts, followed by Fengaros Music Village’s infamous jam sessions at the village’s central coffeeshop.
