Tourists with a deep wallet-The big spenders of 2023

Tourism revenue reached €3 billion in 2023, a 22.6% increase over 2022 and an impressive 97.6% jump over 2021.

In a year when tourist arrivals approached the record of 2019 (3,976,777) reaching 3,845,652, tourism revenues had a corresponding increase.

According to CySTAT figures, the average length of stay of tourists during 2023 decreased to 8.6 nights compared to 9.4 nights in 2022. On the other hand, the per capita expenditure increased by 2% to €777.68 compared to €761.92 in 2022, while the daily spend increased by 11.5% to €90.43 compared to €81.06 in 2022.

The big spenders

The highest per capita expenditure during the past year was for tourists from Germany (211,216 arrivals), who spent an average of €869.24. This is followed by tourists from the United Kingdom (€848.52), which is still the largest tourist market with 1,302,125 arrivals.

Not far behind are the per capita expenditures of tourists from Israel (€597.10) and Poland (€501.60), from which 273,872 arrivals were recorded.

The list of top five tourists with the highest spending per capita in 2023 is rounded off by tourists from Greece (187,914 arrivals), who spent an average of €380.60.

In terms of daily expenditure, tourists from Israel spent more (€129.80), from which 410,607 arrivals were recorded, while German tourists spent €95.52 per day.

Visitors from the UK spent €85.71 per day, Polish tourists spent €78.38, while visitors from Greece spent €42.76 per day.
