Cyprus absorbed 100% of EU cohesion funds in 2014 - 2020

Cyprus was the first country in the EU in terms of the rate of absorption from EU Cohesion Funds for the period 2014 to 2020, according to data presented by the Permanent Representative of Cyprus to the EU, Christina Rafti, during a discussion at the European Parliament's Committee on Regional Development (REGI).

In total, Cyprus received €876.3 million in payments, of which €58.8 million in net prefinancing and €817.5 million in net interim payments.

In a post on platform X, the Permanent Representation of Cyprus in the EU said that Rafti presented the results of the implementation of Cohesion Policy for the period from 2014 to 2020 and the planning for the period from 2021 to 2027.

According to the data on the Cohesion Open Data Platform of the European Commission (https://cohesiondata.ec.europa.eu/), Cyprus is one of seven countries that absorbed 100% of funds for this period, and appears first on the relevant table ahead of Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland and Slovenia.

The projects funded through these funds include, among other priorities, the promotion of sustainability in the agricultural sector, the reduction of waste and the management of resources, the digitisation and accessibility of cultural audiovisual, printed and musical material through the internet, as well as the creation of an online platform for information on environmental risks. Other projects include education towards innovation and entrepreneurship, and strengthening the competitiveness of agri-food SMEs.
