With a record-breaking number of registrations, the OPAP Limassol Marathon has taken place to great success.
The PrimeTel 5KM Corporate Race and the Dashin Foundation Youth Race took place on 13 April attracting over 12,000 runners of all ages and abilities while on 1 April, the competitive phase of the event saw some 5,000 runners take part in the Marathon Race, the Muskita Half Marathon Race, the Petrolina 10KM Energy Race and the Remathlon 5KM City Race.
Of particular significance is that there were 800 registered Marathon runners at this year’s event, significantly higher than in the past.
The OPAP Limassol Marathon was launched by the Limassol Municipality and the Athletics Club of Limassol in 2007 with OPAP taking over its administration in 2010 and since organising its every year except 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic.
With just 700 participants at the first Limassol Marathon, the event has since become one of the most recognisable running events in Europe.
One of the many moments of note at this year’s happening include runner Kyrylo Bielykov not only finishing the OPAP Limassol Marathon but also starting a new chapter by proposing to his girlfriend at the finish line.
