WebApp launches to combat online hate speech

Five leading organisations from four countries have launched the Hate Trackers Beyond Borders WebApp, which is dedicated to empowering young individuals between the ages of 14 and 25 to actively combat online hate speech and foster a culture of unity and understanding.

Leading this initiative are CIFA Onlus (Italy), KMOP - Education and Innovation Hub (Greece), “Hope For Children” CRC Policy Center (Cyprus), Fundación FAD Juventud (Spain), and Idee in Fuga (Italy).

“In an era where digital platforms can too easily become arenas for intolerance, the launch of Hate Trackers Beyond Borders WebApp marks a significant step forward,” the HfC CRC Policy Center (Cyprus) said in a press release.

“These organisations have united to equip the next generation with essential tools and knowledge to effectively address and counter the spread of online hate,” it added.

The WebApp, available in English, Greek, and two other languages, is “a testament to inclusivity and shared cultural values”. It is designed not only to educate users about various forms of hate speech but also to engage them in meaningful dialogue and awareness, especially concerning gender equality and cultural diversity.

Featuring immersive simulated environments such as schools and festivals, the WebApp offers young people practical experiences and the skills needed to identify and oppose hate speech decisively. Additionally, the project website provides access to the Psychological First Aid Toolkit, a collaborative effort led by Hope For Children, which outlines strategies for recognizing hate speech, understanding its impact on mental health, and fostering personal well-being.

“As we unveil this groundbreaking WebApp and the accompanying Psychological First Aid Toolkit, we call on youth worldwide to join us in this crucial mission,” HfC CRC Policy Center (Cyprus) said. “Together, we can create a more inclusive and compassionate online world free from hate and intolerance.”
