Finance Minister to participate in Eurogroup and ECOFIN

Minister of Finance Makis Keravnos is in Brussels to participate in the deliberations of the Eurogroup and the EU Council of Economic and Fiscal Affairs (ECOFIN).

According to a press release by the Ministry, Eurozone Finance Ministers will on 13 May discuss the macroeconomic developments and prospects of the Eurozone, followed by an exchange of views on how investment in research, innovation and human capital can improve the competitiveness of the EU economy.

Furthermore, the Finance Ministers of the Eurozone with the participation of all 27 EU member states, will continue the discussion on the next steps to deepen the Capital Markets Union in the EU, following the mandate of the leaders in the recent European Council to speed up the work.

On 14 May, the Minister of Finance will participate in the ECOFIN that will discuss the economic consequences of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, in the presence of the Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Minister of Finance.

In addition, the Council will seek a political agreement on a proposal to make the relief of excess withholding taxes faster and safer (FASTER), while Ministers will also exchange views on the state of play of the implementation of the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF). They will also seek a political agreement on the value added tax (VAT) in the digital age package.
