'Battle of the burgers' at the Mall of Cyprus: McDonald’s, Goody’s and Burger King within same food court

The coexistence of three well-known burger chains in the same space is expected to develop into a mega showdown.

Goody's Burger House is preparing its return to Nicosia as the Greek restaurant chain, after Limassol, is proceeding with the opening of a second store which will operate at the Mall of Cyprus.

It is recalled that the McDonald's and Burger King chains are already active in the same shopping centre and located on the same floor of the Mall of Cyprus, in close proximity to each other, since 2019 following the expansion and renovation of the mall’s food court.

Goody's will now be joining the battle of the burgers with the new store operating right next to the existing McDonald's one.

The arrival of the Greek Goody's to Nicosia and its 'confrontation' with two other chains, exactly in the same area, is expected to bring about new conditions in terms of market shares and traffic, overturning the existing balances in a sector through intense competition.

Clash of the Titans

Family Restaurants Andreou Co. Ltd has a total of 23 McDonald's stores throughout Cyprus, seven of which are located in Nicosia. The company has been active in the Cypriot market since 1997.

On the other hand, Wow Burgers (under the umbrella of PHC Franchised Restaurants), which took over the development and operation of Burger King in Cyprus in 2014, has a total of ten stores in the Cypriot market, of which five are located in Nicosia.

Goody's Burger House returned to the Cypriot market in 2022, after an absence of six years.

The chain, a member of the Vivartia group, re-entered the local market through the efforts of Cypriot private investors, opening the first store on Nikos and Despina Pattichis Avenue in Limassol.

In April 2024, the Mall of Cyprus announced the arrival of the Greek catering chain in Nicosia, with the opening of a second store within the mall.
