Shipping Deputy Minister Marina Hadjimanolis will be in Denmark to attend the European Maritime Day EMD 2024 Conference, this year being held in Svendborg, Denmark on 30 and 31 May.

According to a press release, in the framework of the Conference, the Shipping Deputy Minister will hold bilateral meetings with the Mayor of Svendborg Bo Hansen, as well as with the Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE), Charlina Vitcheva, with whom she will discuss various practical issues related to the host country's required obligations for the organization of the European Maritime Day.

As part of her visit, the Shipping Deputy Minister will also visit shipyards, maritime training facilities and international training centres.

Limassol will host the European Maritime Day (EMD) for 2026, following a decision of the European Commission, with events in all the coastal cities of Cyprus. The hosting of the European Maritime Day by Cyprus in 2026 coincides with the Presidency of the Council of the EU hosted by the Republic of Cyprus in the first half of 2026. The events attract huge interest from all EU Member States, at a state level, for the academic and research community, companies and organisatons that are active in the maritime and blue economy sectors, Non-Governmental Organizations as well as sea-related international and regional organizations.

This event will bring multiple benefits for Cyprus, as it will attract a large number of visitors who will participate in the events and workshops that will take place. It is also a huge opportunity to promote Cyprus as a maritime center and an attractive tourist destination, the Ministry's press release concluded.
