RIF announces new programmes to boost research excellence

The Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF) has launched three national programmes with a total budget of €1.8m to bolster excellence in research, with the ultimate aim of increasing participation and successes under the European Research Council’s “Horizon Europe”.

Horizon Europe is the EU's key funding programme for research and innovation with a budget of €95.5 billion.

RIF’s first programme – “VISION ERC” – is a new funding tool that aims to strengthen, through national funding, the research excellence of young and experienced researchers so that they can participate at a later stage in the Calls of the European Research Council for the Horizon Europe Programme. The funded Projects should relate to research activities which will form the basis for the proposal to the ERC. The overall budget for this programme is €1m, with maximum funding per project set at €100,000.

The second programme, “ERC Visiting Research Fellowship”, has a €200,000 budget with maximum funding per project set at €25,000-€50,000. It offers researchers the opportunity to go abroad and strengthen their research profile while exchanging knowledge in an international environment.

Finally, the “Horizon Europe - 2nd Opportunity – ERC” offers researchers who were rejected in the “ERC Starting Grant”, “ERC Consolidator Grant” and “ERC Advanced Grant” calls, despite presenting exceptionally high quality proposals, a second chance to go after the funding. The Programme’s budget is €600,000 and the maximum funding per project amounts to €100,000.
