President to attend international conference on Gaza aid in Jordan

President Nikos Christodoulides departs for Jordan to attend an international Conference on the Humanitarian Response on Gaza on 11 June.

Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis said in a written statement that the conference "Call for Action: Urgent Humanitarian Response for Gaza" will deal with urgent humanitarian response for Gaza.

The Conference is jointly organised by the King of Jordan, Abdullah II, the President of Egypt Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres. It will also be attended by leaders of countries in the region, leaders of donor countries and heads and representatives of international organisations, regional and humanitarian organisations.

"The aim of the Conference is to identify ways to strengthen the international community's response to the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in Gaza, to outline effective standard measures and procedures for providing all necessary assistance, to identify operational and logistical needs", the Spokesman said.

He added that the Republic of Cyprus has been invited to the Conference both as a country of the region and as a donor country, as well as the state that drafted, developed and implemented the "Amalthea" initiative for the maritime corridor for the provision of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

The Conference will be preceded by meetings of Working Groups, with the participation of representatives of the Republic of Cyprus, during which they will examine issues related to the operational impact and resources required to maintain aid routes, as well as the creation of conditions conducive to the safe delivery of aid and the protection of civilians.

This will be followed by the High Level Meeting to examine policy approaches for the future situation and will conclude with a statement summarising the outcome of the Conference.

On the sidelines of the Conference, the President of the Republic will have a meeting with the King of Jordan, during which both the implementation of the goals of the Summit and the bilateral relations of the two countries will be discussed.
