The car brands Cyprus buyers have found most attractive so far this year

The car market was somewhat numb in May this year with small losses in registrations, after the jump recorded in April. However, the overall picture presented by the market was mixed as it turned a profit in the first five months of the year.
According to CySTAT figures, passenger saloon car registrations fell by 14.5% in May 2024 down to 3,325 compared to 3,888 in May 2023.
Regarding the period January – May 2024, passenger saloon registrations increased by 19%, reaching 17,176 compared to 14,434 in the corresponding period last year. Used saloon cars are still in the majority, with their registrations reaching 9,802 or 57.1%, while new registrations reached 7,374, accounting for 42.9%.
Overall passenger car saloon market
Total passenger saloon car registrations in the first five months of 2024 stood at 17,176, while private passenger saloon registrations stood at 15,207.
Toyota remains at the top, with 3,009 registrations, with Mazda and Nissan following, with 1,885 and 1,754 respectively. Kia counts 1,199 registrations for the relevant period, while Mercedes completes the top five, with 988 registrations.
Rounding out the rest of the top 10 list for the first five months' total saloon passenger car market are BMW (884), Volkswagen (811), Hyundai (649), Honda (417) and Land Rover (388).
New saloon passenger cars
About four in ten passenger saloons registered in the first five months of 2024 were new. New saloon car registrations came in at 7,374, with private new passenger saloon registrations at 6,681.
Kia remains in first place, with 1,151 registrations, while Nissan follows with 868. Third is Toyota (703), fourth is Volkswagen (641), while the top five is completed with Hyundai (599).
Popular market brands make up the list of new passenger saloon car registrations. Among them BMW (349), Mercedes (299), Audi (221), Skoda (214) and Porsche (167).
Used saloon passenger cars
The majority of the car market was still held by used saloons in the first five months of 2024, with registrations reaching 9,802, while private used car registrations stood at 8,526.
Toyota maintained a slight lead with 2,306 registrations, with Mazda trailing further behind with 1,833. Nissan ranks third (886), Mercedes fourth (689) and BMW fifth (535).
Rounding out the rest of the top ten for used passenger saloon cars are Honda (359), Land Rover (228), Suzuki (195), Volkswagen (170) and Lexus (144).
