Energy Minister addresses American Chamber of Commerce event

An engaging discussion was held between the Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry, George Papanastasiou, and AmCham Cyprus’ members.

The discussion was part of the successful breakfast series hosted on a regular basis by AmCham, a relevant announcement noted.

The event was hosted by Hellenic Bank at its Headquarters on 14 June.

During the discussion, the Minister updated AmCham Cyprus’ members about the latest developments regarding energy issues, both in terms of the ongoing contracts with Chevron and ExxonMobil, as well as for the Ministry’s vision and commitment to the green transition, combined with the development of the “Great Sea Interconnector” and the liberalization of the Electricity market.

In terms of the bilateral economic, trade and investment relations between the US and Cyprus, the Minister and AmCham members discussed and commented on the latest statistics.

While both agreed on the great progress made in recent years in enhancing bilateral co-operation on those areas, including the attraction of significant US investments in Cyprus in many sectors of the economy, like Energy, Technology, Healthcare, Transportation and Real Estate, they also expressed their commitment to continue contributing constructively to the further growth of those ties.

To this end, AmCham Cyprus and the Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry agreed to explore new fields of beneficial partnership between Cyprus and the US, as well as deepen and enhance existing ones, to the mutual benefit of both countries and peoples.

The event was attended, amongst others, Panayiota Patsali, Director of Trade at the Ministry, Antonis Rouvas, Chief Executive Officer of Hellenic Bank, the Deputy Director at Invest Cyprus, Lia Riris, representatives of AmCham Cyprus’s annual sponsors (EcommBX, CABLENET, PWC, BAKER TILLY, HELLENIC BANK and KPMG), AmCham Cyprus’s past presidents, representatives of the US Embassy, as well as the vast majority of AmCham Cyprus’ BoD and corporate members, the announcement concluded.
