Well-known Cyprus-US businessman Dinos Iordanou has died

The business world, and beyond, is mourning the untimely death of well-known Cypriot businessman, Constantine (Dinos) P. Iordanou.
Iordanou, an independent non-executive member of the Board of Directors of the Bank of Cyprus and with a long and successful career in the US passed away suddenly on 16 June, at the age of 71, after suffering a heart attack.
As a member of the Board of Directors of the Bank of Cyprus participated in various committees of the Board of Directors, and was Chairman of the Audit Committee.
In recent months, Dinos Iordanou also became widely known to the wider public due to his involvement in the country’s football scene and especially through the investment he had set in motion for the construction of the privately owned APOEL stadium in Kokkinotrimithia.
Hailing from Mathiatis, the self-made entrepreneur found himself in the USA in 1969 where, after completing his studies, he initially worked for the insurance giant AIG.
He was then hired by Berkshire Hathaway, becoming head of the company's Commercial Casualty Division in 1987, and a few years later served as senior executive vice president of American Home Insurance Company, a subsidiary of American International Group.
He also served in various roles at Zurich Financial Services and its affiliates, as senior executive vice president of Zurich Financial Services, as president of the Zurich-American Specialties Division, as Chief Operating Officer and CEO of Zurich American, and as CEO of Zurich North America.
Dinos Iordanou has been the chairman and CEO of Arch Capital Group Limited since August 2003 and a director since January 2002, having retired in September 2019.
With a personal fortune of more than €240 million, in recent years he held the position of the chairman of Vantage Group Holding Ltd, the non-executive director of Verisk Analytics Inc., while - as mentioned above - he was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Bank of Cyprus.
Vantage Group Holdings, of which he held the position of chairman, provides reinsurance services in the sectors of property damage in North America, Europe, Japan and Australia, as well as specialty reinsurance in casualty categories such as marine, energy, aviation, etc., and in the mortgage sector.
