President Christodoulides to visit Brussels for the European Council summit

President Nikos Christodoulides will travel to Brussels to attend the European Council Summit which is taking place on 27 - 28 June, according to an official statement.
During the summit, the 27 EU leaders are expected to decide on the leadership of the European Union for the next five years.
According to statements made by government spokesman Constantinos Letymbiotis to CNA, the President is expected to have a meeting with the UN Secretary General's personal envoy Maria Angela Holguin on the sidelines of the summit, either on 27 or 28 June.
On 27 June, President Christodoulides will also participate in the preparatory meeting of the leaders of the European People's Party (EPP) Member States, in which the President of DISY, Anita Demetriou, is also participating as a leader of the opposition from the EPP.
As stated in the statement, during the morning meeting of the EPP, leaders will discuss the issues on the agenda of the European Council summit.
In the afternoon of the same day, President Christodoulides will participate in the work of the summit of the European Council.
The agenda includes discussions towards reaching an agreement for the leaders of the EU’s institutions during the next institutional cycle, the Strategic Agenda of the EU for the upcoming period 2024 - 2029, the situation in Ukraine amidst the ongoing Russian invasion, the situation in the Middle East due to the Hamas - Israel war and the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, as well as migration.
President Christodoulides will return to Cyprus on the evening of 28 Juen. He will be accompanied by government spokesman Constantinos Letymbiotis, Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Raouna, the director of the President's press office Victoras Papadopoulos and other officials, according to a statement by the Presidential Palace.
