WHO DG Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus receives Honorary Doctorate at UNIC

The Honorary Doctorate bestowed upon World Health Organization DG, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, by the University of Nicosia Medical School recognises his transformative leadership, dedication to health equity, and outstanding contributions to global health, the university said in a press release.

As Professor Andreas Charalambous, Executive Vice President, UNIC Health put it, “His work embodies the values of our institution and serves as an inspiration to our students, faculty, and the broader medical community. By honouring Dr Ghebreyesus, we acknowledge his unwavering commitment to improving health outcomes for all and his profound impact on global health”.

Addressing the graduates, Dr Ghebreyesus said: “It is very impressive, and very encouraging to see the range of careers for which this UNIC School of Medicine is producing graduates – from clinical practice to public health and research. The simple truth is that there is no health without health and care workers”, and “WHO is committed to supporting the Government of Cyprus in any way we can to promote, provide and protect the health of the people of this island.”
