CUT's Nostradamus project aims to transform the agricultural sector

The Nostradamus project, coordinated by the Cyprus University of Technology's Eratosthenes Center of Excellence and in collaboration with 15 partners, aims to transform the agricultural sector, and beyond, through improved and informed decisions by farmers and policymakers at both national and European level.

A relevant press release said that in line with the Farm to Fork strategy, the Common Agricultural Policy and the European Strategy for Data, the project will design, develop and evaluate a scalable platform to collect valuable information in near real-time from multiple data sources to support various agricultural applications.

By leveraging European and national multidimensional datasets, Nostradamus will establish an automated pipeline for data acquisition, storage, and pre-processing.

It said Five Data Cubes will integrate satellite datasets and employ near-real-time server-side algorithms for time-series analysis and the generation of value-added geospatial maps. To enhance the sustainability performance and competitiveness of the agricultural sector through a multi-actor approach, Nostradamus will develop multiple open-source digital applications for farmers.

These applications will utilise both edge and cloud solutions, as well as hybrid combinations, harnessing the potential of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions and Earth Observation data, ensuring the effective exploitation of such applications even in areas with weak connectivity.
