University of Cyprus and Wargaming Group boost cooperation

In a bid to step up their cooperation, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of Cyprus and Wargaming Group Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Friday, 28 June 2024.

On behalf of the University of Cyprus, the MoU was signed by Professor Konstantinos Fokianos, Chairperson of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, while on behalf of Wargaming, by Valentinos Polykarpou, General Manager of Wargaming Group Ltd.

The MoU between Wargaming and the Department of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of Cyprus sets out a framework for cooperation in the fields of Pure and Applied Mathematics, Probability, Statistics, Data Science and the participation of Wargaming Cyprus to the Industrial Affiliates Activity of Department of Mathematics and Statistics. The broader objective of the MoU is for the contracting parties to share expertise and high-level technology, so that they can strengthen their strategic role in today's ever-evolving IT industry.

The memorandum provides for closer cooperation on various levels such as student internships, student assignments on issues of mutual interest, participation in research programmes and joint knowledge-transfer activities, as well as development and provision of elective courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

The Chair of the University’s Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Professor Konstantinos Fokianos stated that “Developing effective strategic partnerships within the industry in the areas of research and applied experience gives us the opportunity to open up in new areas and answer much bigger questions.

It is therefore important to reflect on, and learn from, the collective experiences to ensure the necessary capabilities and resources are in place to remain competitive in today’s ever evolving fields of Mathematics and Statistics”.

On his part, Valentinos Polykarpou, General Manager of Wargaming Group Ltd, pointed out that “This collaboration reaffirms our dedication to nurturing talent in various spheres of education and fostering strong ties between academia and industry. Through this partnership, we aim to support students in their research activities, and provide them with unique opportunities for growth and development. We are excited to embark on this journey of knowledge exchange and we look forward to a successful and impactful collaboration.”
