What it's like to work at Kinanis LLC

Founded in 1983, Kinanis LLC has evolved over the years into an innovative law firm that combines expertise in corporate law, trusts, taxation, VAT, accounting, litigation, financial services, labour law, migration and technology.

“From the beginning, our focus has been on aligning with the latest global developments and innovations in corporate business,” explains Andri Michael, a partner at the firm. Following the acquisition of Andreas P. Siapanis & Associates LLC in 2023, Kinanis now employs over 65 lawyers, accountants and other professionals, making it one of the biggest firms in the country.

“We believe that our people are the firm’s most valuable asset and their continuous development is a vital investment for internal growth,” Michael asserts. This philosophy led to the creation of the Kinanis Academy, a dedicated professional training centre that provides learning and development opportunities, spreading knowledge and experience across all levels within the firm. Employees are also encouraged to attend external workshops, seminars and conferences to enhance their expertise. “We also aim to give regular constructive performance management feedback, setting development goals for each employee who wants to excel and move to the next step on their career path," she adds. The firm’s tuition assistance programme further supports continuous learning by covering a substantial part of the fees for employees pursuing degrees or professional qualifications. “And though our annual summer internship programmes are addressed to law students, our younger professionals can explore their teaching and mentoring skills," she notes.

With transparent communication central to fostering a culture of trust at Kinanis LLC, it has introduced a new performance management system, which includes clear KPIs and frequent performance assessments, aiming to enhance productivity and competencies. Technology, Michael says, has been instrumental in building transparent communication; in addition, new customised tools systems have been introduced, enabling employees to assess their own performance and take the necessary action to achieve their goals. “In this way, they are given autonomy in their roles and are entrusted with decision-making. Micromanagement can erode trust, while empowerment can build it,” Michael emphasises.

Acknowledging the legal profession's notorious penchant for burning the midnight oil, Michael highlights Kinanis LLC's commitment to maintaining what she calls “attractive” office hours. Meanwhile, the firm’s willing embracement of technology – a refreshing novelty in a sector traditionally considered change-averse – supports remote working when necessary. This progressive stance has enabled it to introduce a twice-weekly work-from-home arrangement, a significant boon for commuting employees and those engaged in the never-ending search for a healthy work-life balance. Kinanis LLC further distinguishes itself with a professionally managed provident fund scheme and it also covers the costs of employees’ memberships of professional bodies.

“We evaluate employee satisfaction through regular departmental meetings and one-on-one discussions, ensuring that we stay attuned to their needs and make their work life more comfortable,” Michael says. Open communication is encouraged and employees at all levels may voice their views and suggestions. “No-one’s door is closed; the firm listens, assesses and implements change wherever possible,” she says.

Michael is quick to make the point that the firm’s appeal is not solely due to its attractive working hours and benefits. Kinanis LLC has a unique culture and team dynamics, characterised by strong relationships, she says, and elaborates, “It is all about fostering positive interactions among colleagues, promoting collaboration, support and the sharing of knowledge.”
