President and Greek PM interact with NEMATA Cyprus map

President Nikos Christodoulides and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis recently interacted with the NEMATA map of Cyprus, a project commissioned by the Deputy Ministry of Culture CY, powered by CYENS Centre of Excellence, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Turkish Invasion of Cyprus.

Deputy Minister of Culture Vasiliki Kassianidou presented the project to Christodoulides and Mitsotakis during the latter’s state visit to the island.

According to CYENS – Thinker Maker Space, “NEMATA invites you to reflect on your journey: Where were you living in 1974? Where do you live today? Where have you been in the meantime? By pulling threads that record your movements across the island, your personal history will intertwine with the stories of other refugees”.

The NEMATA map had previously gone on a tour of the island, visiting all the main towns for people to add their own thread to the story.

Meanwhile, a digital version of the map has been created by the CYENS Centre of Excellence 3D/SW Development Team: Tereza Kourra, Andreas Socratous, Marios Pafitis and Kyriacos Larmos, where strings are automatically tied on the map based on the information you provide, with all data securely archived.
