Hermes Airports’ Andys Frangos: “The technical management of the airports is our responsibility” (video)

In a recent interview featured in Hermes Airport’s Flight Mode magazine, Andys Frangos, the company’s Technical Department Head, talks about how his team ensures the buildings and infrastructure at the island’s two airports remain in top shape.

As the summer season continues, the country’s airports are buzzing with activity and the ever-ready Hermes Airports Technical Department is fulfilling its main responsibility of managing the infrastructure and facilities of the two airports, contributing to the provision of good service and a positive passenger experience.

As Frangos mentioned, Department activities in the last six months alone, included the annual maintenance of the runway, replacing the carpets at the departure exits with ceramic tiles, the renovation of the new waiting areas for distinguished passengers, the maintenance of some of the WCs and the maintenance of the airports’ air conditioning systems. A wide selection of other actions are also implemented daily.

The full interview, in Greek, can be seen below, followed by a transcript in English.

Andys Frangos: “The Technical Department of Hermes Airports is made up of experienced and skilled civil engineers, architectures, electricians and mechanical engineers among other specialisations who take care of the continuous improvement and modernisation of the Larnaca and Paphos airports

In this way, they contribute to the good serve and positive experience provided to passengers.

Our team’s main responsibility is the management of the infrastructures and buildings of the two airports. Larnaca and Paphos, and planned maintenance, both small and large in scale, which is carried out in a safe manner, incorporating international safety standards.

This includes a wide range of works which include many and various elements.

For example, in the past six months alone, we had the yearly maintained of the runway, the replacement of the carpeting in the departure area exits with ceramic tiles, the renovation of the new waiting areas for distinguished passengers, the renovation of some of the WCs, the maintenance of the air-conditioning systems, and more.

The various projects at both airports are carried out in cooperation with many contractors. One of the main responsibilities of the members of our team is the management and coordination of all of these (contractors), as well as monitoring the quality of the services they provide.

One of the main works that we completed and officially opened recently were the two photovoltaic parks at Larnaka and Pafos Airports, which cover 28% of the airports’ energy needs, with plans for expansion in the near future for them to cover up to 40% of our energy needs.

In addition, Larnaka Airport participates in the TULIPS project along with three other European airports and 28 other stakeholders, a programme that examines the development of innovative practices that will strengthen sustainability at airports over the coming years.

The programme, which is Funded by the EU, aims to implement specific schemes and polices within the framework of the European Green Agreement for the faster transition towards greener air transportation.

This year’s summer season is already underway and as we approach the peak of passenger traffic, the airports are, this year as well, fully prepared to provide travelers with a positive and comfortable travelling experience.”
