President outlines goal for a healthy fiscal environment before the business community

The Government's goal can be summed up in a stable and healthy fiscal environment in our country, President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, said at the start of the Round Table Discussion with members of the Cypriot business community at the Presidential Palace, in Nicosia.

Members of the Council of Ministers together with the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Cyprus Employers & Industrialists Federation, the Association of Banks and the Cyprus Confederation of Professional Craftsmen and Shopkeepers, attended the discussion on 4 July.

We acknowledge you as our "closest partners", the President told participants, adding that the Cypriot business community is a protagonist "in the development of the economy over time, but also in the implementation of 'Vision 2035' to make our country one of the best places in the world for someone to live, to work and to be active."

Referring to the approach towards the economy over time, President Christodoulides expressed the belief that "the vision must be implemented, we must not change our vision in the economy every time we have a change of Government, because this is a sign of lack of seriousness."

"The challenges you have, and we know them very well, are also our challenges and we must work together to deal with them", he underlined, referring to geopolitical instability, Ukraine, the Middle East, the cost of energy and the challenges of connectivity.

He noted that when the country's economy is doing well, this allows the government to implement a targeted social policy as per its obligation towards fellow citizens.

"Today we are inaugurating an institutionalized dialogue, it is our first meeting that will become an institution, we will decide at the end of the day how frequent this meeting will take place, so that we can proceed to achieve our common goals", the President of the Republic pointed out.

The common goals, as he said, "are summed up in a stable and healthy fiscal environment in our country, and to give you the necessary resources to be able to face the challenges of the global market, to compete, to strengthen the competitiveness of our country, of our economy and to move forward."
