CMMI announces launch of EU-funded project PUREEF-Y

The Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI) announced the launch of the EU-funded project PUREEF-Y.

“Over the next 3 years, we'll be partnering with experts from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and the Israel Oceanographic & Limnological Research to better understand the effects of climate change on coastal habitats, such as shallow rocky reefs, and organisms, such as macroalgae, in the Eastern Mediterranean region,” CMMI said.

Activities will focus on capacity building and knowledge transfer in the areas of chemical oceanography and marine ecology.

“Our mission (is) to better understand past and present ecological conditions and design management plans for monitoring, conservation & restoration, and policy reforms for the future,” it concluded.
