Boosting mountainous regions is one of the government's main policies, Deputy Minister says

Boosting mountainous regions and the countryside is among the government's significant policies, Deputy Minister of Social Welfare Marilena Evangelou has underlined.

She made the comments as she represented President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, at the 10 August opening ceremony of the 42nd Lefkara Art and Culture Festival.

In her address Evangelou stated that the 42nd Lefkara Art and Culture Festival “is a Festival which attracts visitors from all over Cyprus as well as tourists to the beautiful, picturesque village of Lefkara, with its traditional architecture, narrow and winding streets and its unique houses with tiled roofs” recalling that Lefkara village is world-renowned for its traditional embroidered lace handicrafts and silver wirework, the art of which has been practiced in Lefkara since the time of the Venetians.

She noted that events like this bring life and vitality to Cyprus’s villages, and pointed out that through these events Cypriots come closer to their roots, get to know their traditions, their homeland, but also get the opportunity to develop culture, arts and quality activities."

She also said that "boosting the mountainous regions and the countryside is among the government's significant policies”, underlining that all the relevant Ministries and Deputy Ministries have targeted policies with specific implementation plans, the progress of which is presented at a regular basis before the Council of Ministers.

She also underlined that the Deputy Ministry is at the disposal of the local authorities for further synergies, which will contribute to the improvement of the daily life of the citizens, but also to the quick and timely identification of challenges so that they can be dealt with efficiency
