Government employment up 4.3% yoy for January-July 2024

Average total government employment reached 54,481 persons for the period January – July 2024, marking an increase of 2,238 persons or 4.3%, compared to the corresponding period of 2023, according to data published by CySTAT.

In July 2024 total government employment reached 53,039 persons.

In the Civil Service there were 12,032 permanent employees (51.6%), 4,235 employees with contracts of indefinite duration (18%), 1,231 employees with contracts of definite duration (5.3%) and 5,835 hourly paid workers (25%).

In the Educational Service there were 11,888 permanent employees (75%), 1,158 employees with contracts of indefinite duration (7%), 2,593 employees with contracts of definite duration (16%) and 141 hourly paid workers (<1%).

In Security Forces there were 8,327 permanent employees (59.8%), 4,559 employees with contracts of indefinite duration (33%), 298 employees with contracts of definite duration (2.1%) and 742 hourly paid workers (5%).
