British Forces Cyprus receive Beam electric vehicle charging kit

Beam Global has delivered solar charging kit to British Forces Cyprus which is now in use across the base.

This includes ten transportable electric vehicle charging points and an accompanying trailer to allow movement of the chargers, the British Bases' Strategic Command has reported.

According to a relevant news story on the Gov.uk website, the equipment is in use across the Sovereign Base Areas camps at Episkopi, Dhekelia, Akrotiri, and Agios Nikolaos.

"Each unit can charge two vehicles, therefore across the sites 20 vehicles can be charged simultaneously solely from solar energy. To get the equipment up and running, a short training package was also delivered by Beam," the report said.

According to the report, the £820,000 (approximately €956,879) contract to Beam Global was announced in March and upon delivery Commanding Office of Transport Unit HQ British Forces Cyprus, Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Taylor said, "We’re really happy to have recently procured ten Beam solar-powered EV ARC charging systems.
These portable charging stations fit within a standard parking space and will harness the abundant sunshine from Cyprus and provide a clean energy source, significantly contributing to our environmental responsibility and enhancing our emergency resilience.
They will support electric vehicles on Sovereign Bases Area camps during daytime or nighttime, and will at the same time remind everyone of the importance of innovation to enhance capabilities by utilising our planet’s solar power."

As pointed out in the news story, the chargers are also completely grid independent and deployable in minutes with no construction or electrical work required. "Given this flexibility, they are rapidly moveable to new locations for events, emergencies or simply to move to a more optimal location. The opportunity beyond vehicle charging is therefore significant with the equipment having enormous potential to act as mobile generators, power pop up hospitals, support military exercises and more in remote areas," the news story concluded.
