FM: Relations with Egypt are strategically important

Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos stressed the strategic importance of Cyprus and Egypt’s bilateral ties in a meeting with Egypt’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Badr Abdelatty, in Cairo this week

The ministry said in a press release that the two Ministers talked about the Middle East and that Kombos referred to the need to avoid further escalation and destabilisation in the region.

Following his one-on-one meeting with Dr Abdelatty, Kombos engaged in extended consultations with the participation of delegations from the two countries.

Discussions focused on the two countries’ bilateral relations and the prospects of further deepening them in various areas of cooperation. They also discussed EU - Egypt relations, energy issues, as well as the situation in the Middle East.

Kombos underlined Nicosia's commitment to further strengthen ties with Cairo, while referring to the developments in the Middle East, the FM talked about Egypt's leading role as a pillar of stability and security and stressed the need to avoid further escalation and destabilisation in the region.
