Paphos tourism at the same level as last year, but behind 2019, hoteliers say

For the hotel industry, the tourist season is expected to fluctuate at roughly the same levels as in 2023, but behind 2019, with the exception of July 2024 when arrivals reached 2019 levels, the President of the Paphos Hotels Association, Euripides Loizides has said.

Speaking to CNA, Loizides pointed out that although the winter started satisfactorily for the hotel industry of Paphos until March, April and May reaching the same levels as in 2023, June marked a slowdown compared to 2019 (- 5.5% from 2019 and +5.5% from 2023), while July was, as he described it, a "strange" month.

More specifically, he said, July was better compared to 2023 and compared to 2019 in terms of arrivals in Cyprus.

Loizides noted, however, that this was not reflected in the number of customers at Paphos hotels and that this was due to airbnb type accommodations or overnight stays in the occupied areas, or a combination of the two.

He further pointed out that the length of stay of visitors in Cyprus has decreased from 10.5 days, on average, to 7 days, due to the wider economic crisis.

In his statements to CNA, Loizides also mentioned that August has been a satisfactory month, especially due to the attraction of local tourism.

For September and October, the President of the Paphos Hotels Association said that the first indications are satisfactory in terms of occupancy, hoping that nothing unexpected will arise due to the situation in neighbouring countries.
