The top destinations for Cypriot travelers

July proved to be a month for travel for Cypriots and other permanent residents of the island, during which the highest number of overseas trips by residents so far this year was recorded.

However, according to CySTAT figures, the trips of Cypriot residents abroad in July this year, fell by 7% year-on-year, reaching 171,382 compared to 184,335 in July last year.

The purpose of travel was mainly for holidays with a percentage of 74.4%, while business reasons accounted for 12.1%, studies for 11.9% and other reasons for 1.5%.

Around four in ten trips in July 2024 were to Greece (68,805), with the UK also remaining a popular destination, with 18,987 trips or 11% of the total.

Italy, Germany, Spain and France remain poles of attraction

At the same time, Cypriots began to show their clear preference for Italy (8,191), while there was an increased interest in traveling to Germany (6,541) in the middle of summer.

Travels to Spain (4,809) reached their peak in July, with France (4,621) and Russia (4,605) following slightly behind.

Other popular travel destinations for Cypriots include Romania (3,935), Poland (3,864), Bulgaria (3,736) and Austria (3,658).

There are also quite a few Cypriots choosing destinations such as the United States (2,320), the United Arab Emirates (2,262) and Hungary (2,190).
