CMMI to feature on Euronews docuseries
07:00 - 24 August 2024
The upcoming episode of Euronews’ ‘Ocean’ documentary series on 27 August will be dedicated to the mission-driven research and innovation conducted by the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI) to protect and restore marine and coastal ecosystems and biodiversity.
CMMI’s Senior Associate Scientist Louis Hadjioannou will be interviewed underwater, at depths of between five and 30 metres, by Euronews’ reporter Denis Loctier.
Announcing the news on his LinkedIn page along with pics, Loctier said: “Interviewing an expert underwater has long been on my bucket list — it’s obviously the most immersive way to explain things to viewers. Underwater interviews are rare on TV, and for good reason. Typically, SCUBA divers breathe through a mouthpiece, so they can't really say much without drowning, which isn't what I was aiming for in this particular story.”
He added, “What we needed for our shoot in Cyprus was a compact and affordable solution allowing the interviewees to speak underwater and have their voice recorded. I won't reveal all the secrets here, but combining a commercially available full-face mask with a custom-made underwater recording system allowed to record excellent soundbites as Louis showed us around Cyprus seabed at the depths between 5 and 30 metres, explaining the impact of heatwaves on Cyprus’s marine ecosystems.”
Don’t miss this insightful documentary around Cyprus’ seabed and find out how CMMI is conducting research to restore threatened coral populations in Cyprus using floating nurseries, but also how marine heatwaves affect the marine ecosystem in the Eastern Mediterranean.
The research is conducted in the framework of EU-funded projects EFFECTIVE & PUREEF-Y.
The documentary premieres on 27 August at 20:45 CET (21:45 Cyprus time) in 7 languages, on Euronews TV and https://euronews.com/ocean.
