Cabinet approves regulations for countryside hotels
08:17 - 26 August 2024
The Cabinet has approved a set of regulations submitted by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism in relation to the operation of countryside hotels, following a bill the Parliament voted last March.
The Deputy Ministry says in an announcement that the law introduces a new policy for hotels that operate or are expected to operate in communities in mountainous areas or areas that are considered as disadvantaged.
The draft regulations provide, inter alia, for relaxations such as the right to a 20% deviation in the minimum area of the reception area, (including the living room), an exception of a provision, which determines the minimum area of the internal common areas and the right for single rooms to take up to 50% of the total number of rooms provided.
It also provides for a permissible deviation of 10% in the minimum area of the rooms in relation to what is provided for hotels located in other areas, an exception to a relevant provision, which specifies that it is mandatory to provide a balcony or a terrace or a room garden, at least in 50% of the hotel rooms and an exemption from a related provision, which specifies that the existence of a swimming pool is mandatory for hotels of the four and five star category.
These relaxations apply for city hotels as well and the Deputy Ministry notes that these provisions are expected to assist in the development of hotel businesses while, at the same time, existing hotels are now given the opportunity to upgrade to a class/category, provided they meet a number of other conditions.
