Alexandros Ntavos named CEO of OPAP Cyprus as Kamil Ziegler continues as Board Chairman

OPAP Cyprus recently announced the appointment of Alexandros Ntavos as the company’s new CEO along with the formation of a new Board of Directors.

The same announcement also named the new Board of Directors, with previous Chairman, Kamil Ziegler, staying on in the same position.

According to the company’s 5 August announcement, the changes were being made with immediate effect.

The company noted that Ntavos had been working for OPAP Cyprus since June 2023, initially joining as Chief Commercial Officer. As of January 2024, he has been exercising managerial duties in OPAP Cyprus, making a significant contribution in the company’s activities, it said.

According to his LinkedIn page, Ntavos’ previous professional experience includes but is not limited to being Group Sales Channels Development Director at United Group B.V. and CCO of Nova, both in Greece.

Ntavos has an MBA specialising in Strategic Marketing & Management from Nottingham Trent University and a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing Management from The American College of Greece. He also has a Certificate is Disruptive Strategy from Harvard Business School Online.

Along with the news of Ntavos’ new position, it was also announced that the Board of Directors (BoD) of OPAP Cyprus had been reconstituted, welcoming in new members. As the company noted, these new members are anticipated to bring in valuable knowledge and experience to support OPAP Cyprus in its future endeavors, following the recent signing of the 15-year concession agreement with the Republic of Cyprus.

The BoD of OPAP Cyprus is once again being headed by Kamil Ziegler as Chairman. Ziegler is also Executive Chairman of OPAP. According to OPAP’s website, Ziegler was born in Ceska Lipa in the Czech Republic. He graduated from the University of Economics, Faculty of Trade, in Prague in 1984 and the Southern Graduate School of Banking at the Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas in 1996.

Ziegler began his professional career at the State Bank of Czechoslovakia where he served in different managerial positions including as an Executive Director for Finance at Komercni banka, Prague, and then as a deputy CEO and Board member at Czech Savings Bank.

Thereafter, he was appointed Chairman of the Board and CEO in the Czech state‐owned Consolidation Bank. After that he served as Chairman of the Board and CEO in Raiffeisenbank Czech Republic.

Ziegler also held the position of Executive Director for Finance and Board Member in the PPF Group. His most recent previous executive appointment prior to his role at OPAP was as the CEO and proxy holder in SAZKA A.S., the largest Czech lottery organisation, where he is currently serving as a Board member.

Ziegler has been also a member of the Board of Directors and member of Supervisory Boards of many companies in the Czech Republic, Netherlands, Cyprus and Austria.
