Raouna to discuss competitiveness-demographics at Informal General Affairs Council

Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Raouna is in Budapest to participate in the work of the Informal General Affairs Council (GAC) of the European Union, which will take place between 2-3 September.

According to a statement, the Informal Council will focus on two key priorities of the Hungarian Presidency, improving the EU's competitiveness and addressing the demographic challenges in Europe. The aim is to coordinate discussions on these issues in the different Council configurations, as well as to prepare the Informal European Council to be held on 8 November in Budapest.

It is added that at the plenary session, Ministers will discuss ways to strengthen competitiveness and respect for the rule of law, and subsequently, the Deputy Minister will participate in a working group on strengthening EU competitiveness by addressing labour shortages and in the light of demographic challenges. The Council will conclude with a working lunch, during which the demographic challenges and their impact on Europe will be discussed.
