Deputy Shipping Minister Marina Hadjimanolis was in Athens from 18 until 20 September for an official visit, where she attended a series of events and met with a number of key maritime industry figures.
On 19 September, the Deputy Minister participated in the Annual General Meeting of the Cyprus Union of Shipowners, who she thanked for its longstanding support towards the Register of Cyprus ships, while she also announced a significant increase of registered seagoing vessels under the Cypriot flag, of the order of 12% in the last year.
During the AGM, an official dinner was held that was attended by President Nikos Christodoulides and scores of Cypriot and Greek shipowners.
Hadjimanolis also met with shipping companies to discuss and stay abreast of the shipping community, while she visited the facilities of the Hellenic Marine Environment Protection Association (HELMEPA), where she explored the potential for cooperation in the areas of marine environment protection and maritime education with HELMEPA’s Board of Directors members.
Hadjimanolis then had a meeting with the President of the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping, George Pateras, where they discussed current developments in global shipping and agreed on the potential for joint initiatives, primarily in the field of maritime education.
On 18 September, the Deputy Minister attended an event organised by the Holy Archbishopric of Cyprus, National Federation of Cypriot Organisations in Greece and the “Den Lismono Georgios Karamanos” foundation, which was dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion in Cyprus.
