Greek President set to begin official visit to Cyprus to mark Independence Day, meet with dignitaries

The President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, is beginning an official two-day visit to Cyprus.

At 5.10pm (local time) on Monday, 30 September, President Sakellaropoulou will meet with the President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides, at the Presidential Palace.

At 6.50pm, she will hold a meeting with the Association of Unaccompanied Children Hosted in Greece 1974-1979.

On 1 October, at 8.30am, the President of the Hellenic Republic will pay a visit to the imprisoned graves - the graves of Greek Cypriots hung by the British during the anti-colonial struggle in the mid 50s - and then, at 9am, she will lay a wreath at the statue of Archbishop Makarios.

At 10am she will have a meeting with the President of the House of Representatives of Cyprus, Annita Demetriou, at the House of Representatives, while at 11am she will attend the parade for the anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Cyprus.

At 12.30pm on 1 October, the President of the Hellenic Republic will meet with His Beatitude, Archbishop of New Justinian and All Cyprus, at the Holy Archdiocese of Cyprus.

At 7pm on the same day, she will be awarded an Honorary Doctorate of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Education of the University of Cyprus.
