Aegean Airlines in talks with Hermes Airports to increase number of routes to and from the island

Chairman of Aegean Airlines, Eftichios Vasilakis announced that his company is in talks with Hermes Airports in Cyprus to increase the number of routes to and from the island.

Speaking at the ‘Beyond Sun and Sea’ conference organised by Hermes, Vasilakis said that travellers are now looking for something different and they are not interested on always travelling to crowded places.

Vasilakis said Aegean maintained the number of flights during the winter season as well.

Currently the airline has 9 daily flights to Cyprus with the prospect of adding more mainly to Israel in the first phase and other exotic destinations in the East thereafter. If and when the plans go ahead Aegean will increase its aircraft to three permanently based in Cyprus.

“Authentic experiences are what people look for,” he said, commenting on how the travel industry is changing an adapting.

Vasilakis outlined how people select the destinations they travel to and how airlines select routes to offer.

He said that currently the company is also looking to expand its offerings from Cyprus to “eastwards” destinations.

He added that the airline will also look to maintain its routes offered currently, while growing as Cyprus was good for the goals of expanding further.
