Bounced cheques down €1.15 billion in 2024, at €617,873

A significant decrease was recorded in the value of dishonoured cheques issued in Cyprus in 2024, as it dropped by €1.15 billion, to €617,873, compared to €1,767,912 in 2023, according to data published by the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) in relation to the Central Information Registry (CIR).

The number of bounced cheques registered in 2024 on CBC’s provisional list amounted to 300, compared to 356 in 2023, while the number of persons (individuals and legal entities) registered in 2024 on the provisional list was 151, compared to 231 in 2023.

The number of individuals registered in the provisional list in 2024 was 55, down from 95 in 2023, and the number of legal entities was 96, down from 136 in 2023.

Furthermore, according to the CBC’s data, the number of persons (individuals and legal entities) registered in the CIR in 2024 was 202, compared to 274 in 2023.

Specifically, 77 legal entities were registered in the CIR (101 in 2023), 32 individuals (48 in 2023), and 93 individuals who control legal entities (125 in 2023).

The average number of person registrations in the CIR per month in 2024 was 17, down from 23 in 2023.
