Nicos Mesolongitis on his Greece and Europe expansion plans for OJO Sunglasses
08:36 - 16 January 2025
OJO Sunglasses founder Nicos Mesolongitis expects retail sales to stabilise this year compared to 2023-2024 levels, noting, however, that the retail sector in Cyprus is shrinking in size, selection, and product availability.
Speaking to InBusinessNews , Mesolongitis explained that the biggest challenges the sector is called upon to manage are global competition in the distribution of products via the internet, as well as the low consumer optimism index.
At the same time, OJO Sunglasses will continue its expansion in 2025, aiming to develop at least two new stores in Greece and two stores elsewhere within the European Union.
The company's main area of development remains the introduction and use of specialised development tools to further strengthen its online store.
Choosing the right direction and boosting foreign investment
Considering that within the year there may be significant changes in the political scene and, by extension, in the economic prospects of Cyprus, the founder of OJO Sunglasses notes that the change in the political scene in the United States is expected to bring about sweeping changes in the global economy and its development patterns.
"Awaiting the US government's stance towards China, Russia, and the European Union - where stability and the economy are central issues - we believe that these developments will significantly impact economic growth during the period 2025-2030," he said.
With Cypriot political and economic policy being greatly influenced by the above, Nicos Mesolongitis emphasised the need for the representatives of Cyprus to choose the right direction, at least with regard to foreign policy.
"When it comes to domestic politics, I believe that a lot of hard work is required to avoid 'our ship hitting the rocks,'" he pointed out, among other things.
Regarding the main axes on which Cyprus should focus, with the aim of boosting foreign investment, they are, according to Mesolongitis, the positive promotion of the country's commercial identity, ensuring integrity in matters of trust, the effective handling of bureaucracy, as well as the resolution of the housing issue, both to attract workers and professional personnel and to facilitate Cypriot residents.
