Andreas Hadjisergis: Energy sector shift towards sustainability will continue in 2025

The energy sector in Cyprus is expected to continue its shift towards sustainability and environmentally friendly solutions in 2025, according to the Director of Intergaz, Andreas Hadjisergis. And this, he says, aligns with the company's strategy of providing innovative and environmentally conscious products and services.

In an interview with InBusinessNews, as part of the "IN Business Forecasting 2025" series, Hadjisergis points out that the sector may face challenges related to regulatory changes, evolving consumer expectations, and geopolitical tensions, which play a significant role in the Eastern Mediterranean region.

He says key challenges will include adapting to rapid technological advancements and managing the costs of implementing sustainable infrastructure while maintaining competitive prices.

And he does not rule out the possibility of increased collaborations or partnerships in the energy sector, noting that companies are striving to achieve sustainability goals and scale their operations.

Speaking about Intergaz, Hadjisergis stated that in 2025, the company will focus on organic growth and strategic partnerships that align with its vision.

How do you think the Cypriot economy will perform in the new year? How optimistic are you about its prospects?

"I am cautiously optimistic about the Cypriot economy in the coming year. Cyprus has demonstrated resilience during challenging times and has shown positive growth in recent years, particularly in sectors such as tourism, real estate, and technology," Hadjisergis noted.

However, we must remain vigilant regarding external factors that may impact economic stability.

With continuous investments in innovation and sustainability, I believe that the country can maintain a steady growth trajectory.

What do you see as the biggest threats to our country’s economy? What should be taken into account to ensure its growth trajectory?

The biggest risks facing the Cypriot economy include global economic uncertainties, energy market volatility, and the impact of inflation on consumers' purchasing power.

To ensure sustainable growth, Cyprus should focus on energy independence, supporting green initiatives, and promoting digital transformation.

We must also continue to enhance stability and transparency in our financial systems to strengthen investor confidence.

What should Cyprus do to become an even more attractive destination for foreign investments? And how important do you consider them to be for the economy?

Foreign investments are vital for the Cypriot economy, as they bring not only capital but also expertise and employment opportunities.

To enhance its attractiveness, Cyprus should focus on simplifying regulatory procedures, strengthening the legal framework for investors, and providing incentives for companies that contribute to sustainability and innovation.

Emphasising sectors such as renewable energy and technology will help position Cyprus as an ideal and investment-friendly destination.

Regarding your company’s sector, how do you expect it to evolve in 2025? Do you have any concerns?

In 2025, I expect that the energy sector in Cyprus will continue its shift towards sustainability and environmentally friendly solutions.

This aligns with Intergaz’s own strategy of providing innovative and environmentally conscious products and services.

However, the sector may face challenges related to regulatory changes, evolving consumer expectations, and geopolitical tensions, which play a significant role in the Eastern Mediterranean region.

Ensuring an affordable and reliable energy supply amid these changes will be of vital importance.

What are the biggest trends/changes you expect to occur in your sector, and what are the most significant challenges?

We anticipate a continued focus on renewable energy sources and smart energy management solutions.

Both consumers and businesses are becoming increasingly aware of environmental issues and are seeking energy-efficient options as well as cost-saving solutions.

The main challenges will be adapting to rapid technological advancements and managing the costs of implementing sustainable infrastructure while maintaining competitive prices.

A strong trend that appears to be taking root in the Cypriot business landscape is that of mergers and acquisitions. Will we see this trend pick up in your sector as well?

Mergers and acquisitions are indeed becoming more prominent in Cyprus, as companies seek to strengthen their market position and pool resources.

Having observed this trend across various sectors, it would be a natural progression to see it happening in our sector as well.

In the energy sector, I believe we may witness increased collaborations or partnerships, as companies strive to achieve sustainability goals and scale their operations.

What can we expect regarding your organisation’s plans and growth strategy for 2025? What actions do you intend to take in this direction?

For 2025, Intergaz will focus on organic growth and strategic partnerships that align with our vision.

We will continue investing in product innovation and digital transformation, as well as customer-centric solutions to deliver exceptional service.

In 2025, we aim to lead the way in providing sustainable energy solutions, remaining at the forefront of Cyprus' energy market.

We will seek to expand our offerings in renewable energy systems through Intergaz Energy Solutions, promoting the transition to more environmentally friendly energy sources across Cyprus.
