Environmental Authority greenlights construction of American Medical Center Limassol

Plans for the construction of the American Medical Center Limassol / American Heart Institute are advancing rapidly.

"This new, state-of-the-art medical centre, situated in the heart of Limassol, is poised to redefine healthcare standards in Cyprus. The Environmental Authority has already authorised the project, which effectively marks the expansion of the American Medical Center, providing a comprehensive range of medical services in Limassol," a relevant press release notes.

As Dr. Marinos Soteriou, one of the founders of AMC, stated, the project’s approval by the Environmental Authority lays the foundation for the construction of a model private hospital in Limassol. This hospital will serve as a benchmark in the healthcare sector, operating in accordance with the latest international standards.

Covering an area of 12,900 m² and with an estimated cost of €60 million, the American Medical Center Limassol is anticipated to become a leading example of healthcare in Cyprus and one of the largest and most technologically advanced private hospitals in the region.

The AMC Limassol has been designed by an award-winning architectural firm in London, emphasising ecological sustainability and energy efficiency through extensive use of renewable energy sources. According to the project plans, photovoltaic systems with a total capacity of approximately 115 kW will be installed to cover part of the hospital's energy needs. It is estimated that 25% of the hospital's energy requirements will be met through renewable energy sources, with the photovoltaic panels installed on both the façade and the roof of the building, the press release also noted.

The lush greenery surrounding the hospital floors creates an oasis of tranquillity. Additionally, the advanced shading system enhances energy efficiency, permitting natural light to diffuse gently throughout the interiors.

The construction is expected to be completed in approximately 1.5 years. Once operational, the centre is projected to create significant employment opportunities for scientific and specialised personnel.

|Raising the bar for private healthcare in Cyprus, AMC Limassol will be equipped with cutting-edge technology and will operate according to the most modern international standards. The building will consist of ten floors, with two additional basement levels and a four-story parking area with over 120 spaces for visitors and staff," the press release also noted.

It continued that, "Characterised by its impressive architectural design, the building will have a total capacity of 68 beds. Each room will feature its own private garden, while green spaces integrated throughout the building will create a serene and welcoming environment for patients and visitors."

Notably, the patient rooms are located on the top three floors of the building, providing panoramic views that promote mental well-being, physical recovery, and quicker healing.

The new private hospital will provide a comprehensive range of medical services and specialties outside the General Healthcare System (GHS), addressing the needs of a rapidly growing city and bridging the void created by the integration of Limassol’s hospitals into the GHS.

The modern facilities of the American Medical Center Limassol will include an Emergency Department, an Intensive Care Unit, five operating rooms equipped with high-tech medical devices, supporting spaces, and a helipad for the immediate transport of patients.

Through its operations, AMC Limassol will provide medical examinations alongside comprehensive diagnostic testing, emergency care for immediate response to critical incidents, both scheduled and emergency surgeries, physical rehabilitation services following injuries or surgeries, intensive care for critically ill patients, inpatient care in private rooms, imaging services (including X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs), nursing care with ongoing support and monitoring of patients, and 24-hour response to emergency medical requirements.

"The construction of AMC Limassol lays the groundwork for providing comprehensive, high-level medical services in Limassol. With a focus on healthcare excellence and sustainable development, the centre promises to deliver an innovative, patient-friendly experience, meeting the needs of both the local and international communities," the press release concludes.
